-
I have 110meg down line from Grande Comm in Waco ><
I'm looking for a solid cheap build which will be impossible to slow down. Am I going intel I3 cpu or is that enough.
I'm learning here guys please help. Remember need a build which will laugh at my connection.
Thanks

Have you read through this:

An i3 would definitely laugh at your connection. At the same time, it's a bit overkill too. Unless, you're running VPN and lots of other packages. If not I'd look at the Atom CPU's. There's a nice Intel D2500CCE mini ITX mobo with dual intel lan over at Mini-Box.com that I'm eyeing. It seems to be about the perfect little router mobo imo.

WOW this looks tits! bro
How would you install PF on it though? USB ?
I didn't think PF took SATA HD's like I said still learning, but love the mini itx idea. Price is good and small too
Let me know
Thanks

I'm running on a mini itx atom board with a built-in Gig lan and another Gig card attached to the PCI express slot. Then added a 32Gig SSD. Nice setup and no moving parts in the box!

cool, how did you install PF ? Did you use USB or something else ?

Either that or temporarily hook up a sata cd/dvd rom drive. When done installing just remove it.

I used a USB stick… Can't remember for sure, but I think I made it bootable with unetbootin.

dd (or equivalent) the pfSense "memstick" image to the USB stick, the boot the target system from the USB stick.
