Alerting questions
-
Hello,
This is about alerting via SMTP and pfsense 2.01.
I have got alerting set up so that it is successfully sending emails via smtp. Here are some issues that I have found:
-
Alerting should be set up so that after a certain amount of time passes and the alert condition still exists, then send out the emails about it. In a heavily used internet environment, I am getting alerts 50 times an evening when the connection gets some saturation on it.
-
I have 6 wan interfaces; two of them are down right now. What happens is when the other connections experience packet loss or other events triggering the emails, I get notifications for those events AND additional emails alerting me about the two down interfaces. To me alerting should be when an event occurs which is bad and when things return to normal. I already know that the two interfaces are down, and I do not want to receive unnecessary emails about them when other events happen.
-
It would be additionally useful if I can set alerting ability for each interface, so perhaps I do not care for interface OPT3 for example; so I do not wish to receive alerts on it…
PFSENSE is a great product and fine tuning these options would be a great on top of that.
Thank you,
Rizwan
