      2.1-DEVELOPMENT (i386)
built on Mon May 14 07:52:52 EDT 2012
      FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE-p1

WAN is ppp0 via Huawei LTE e398 modem (this may be a key for issue)
2 bridged nics for LAN (but issue exists without bridge too)

On console, choose "set interface IP address" for bridge (or any interface other than ppp0), and fill in details, including enabling dhcp server.

When finished, returned overview screen shows /dev/cuaU0.3 as the port for the interface (cuaU0.3 is of course the ppp0 port).

The change is seen in webConfigurator as "usb0" (incidently unlike in 2.0.1, usb0, usb1 etc now show up in the network port drop-down) and the interface is dysfunctional.

May be related to issue http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,49094.0.html?
