      Hi Guys,

Is there a way for me to use PFsense to schedule computers on the LAN to shutdown at a given time.

I would like all non-essential computers to turn off by 11pm.

Is there an app for that?

      Jits

Not aware of anything like a "sleep on LAN" (opposite of Wake on LAN). What kind of OS is on those machines? Generally that's something you would script from a server on the LAN to execute a remote shut down command on the clients.

The machines are either Windows 7 or Windows XP, but I've just found a small program, called "Poweroff" that can schedule computers to power off and install as a service.

          Thanks

For Windows you can use the shutdown.exe tool that was on IIRC the Win2K resource kit and is freely downloadable from MS. It also works with all newer versions of Windows. You could also pkg_add samba on the firewall and use a "net rpc" command to power down from there. Probably easier to do it from a Windows server if you have one with shutdown.exe.
