I'm running PFsense 2.0 stable and installed the Dansguardian package.  The service is running (confirmed at terminal with a ps -A).  However, if I point a windows 7 web browser at the pfsense IP and tell it to use port 8080, the browser just hangs.

Is their anything else that needs to be done in the dansguardian config (webgui) to get it working?  Also, do you need to install the squid package as well?  My understanding is that the dansguardian package includes some kind of squid backend.

      Thank you,

      Greg

It installs squid as a dependence but does not configure it.

You need to create a firewall rule to allow traffic from lan_net to lan_address on port 8080.

Is this the Firewall rule you suggest:

          Action: Pass

          Interface: LAN
          Protocol: TCP
          Source: LAN subnet
          Destination: LAN Address
          Destination Port: 8080

After setting this, I would then config my windows machines to use the pfsense IP as a proxy server on port 8080?

Also, is it necessary to configure and start the squid service for this to work?

          Thanks,

          Greg
