      Hello,

I have been reading the following document: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Multi-WAN_Version_1.2.x.  I am running pfsense 1.2.3-release.

I also own the pfsense book.  The web page above shows one loadbalance and two failover entries in the loadbalancer.  The book does not specify all of these entries are needed.  I also noticed a couple of additional lan rules, that weren't specified in the book.

Is one of these two references wrong?  Which one and why?

      I appreciate your replies…

      Thank you

I used to run 1.2.3 with only a loadbalancing pool setup. It worked fine for loadbalancing. I believe you would need the other entries if you want failover as well.
I highly recommend going to 2.0 for multiwan, it's much easier and more intuitive to setup (IMHO).

It just depends on what you want to do. If you want to just load balance, you only need the load balance entry. If you want failover only, just make that one. If you want to do a mix of all three, then do all three. It isn't required to make all three, the howto just does that since sometimes people want to do all three.
