FreeBSD 8.3 released?
-
Our snapshots came out labeled 8.3-RELEASE yesterday, so I figured it was due. I'll wait for the official announcement though, I grabbed the 9 images early and they ended up remaking the ISOs due to an issue they found so I had to download them again.

That's the excuse I'm looking for! :D
My 'compile box' is actually an old laptop which has a fried graphics chip. Works fine as a low powered server. Since I first installed 8.1 I've made so many small changes I haven't a hope of remembering them.
It's almost certainly going to be a nightmare. ::)Steve

If you update with freebsd-update or from source, it should only replace base system binaries and such, it shouldn't stomp on anything in /usr/local, from ports, etc. And mergemaster will help make sure your changes in /etc are preserved.

I'll definitely try an update first but I think I've messed about with it to an extent that a fresh install is probably a good idea.

screw 8.3R :P

Except 9.0 had a ton of problems and we felt like coding for pfSense rather than fighting FreeBSD 9 issues, so no, don't screw 8.3R :P
pfSense 2.2 will be targeting FreeBSD 9.1 or so, hopefully things will be settled more by then.

Great!
Put me down as a Beta Tester.
When do we start ? LOL -
Once 2.1 is done we'll start on 2.2.
So help get 2.1 finished and then it'll be time to move on. :-)
