SuperMicro TLN4F = Great pfsense box?
-
Looking at SuperMicro's recent announcement: http://www.supermicro.com/newsroom/pressreleases/2012/press120611_Emb_IVB_x9SPV.cfm
Those little 1u servers look like potentially great pfsense boxes. Quad Intel 82574L NICs with low power laptop quad-core i7 CPUs (+ management port): http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/QM77/X9SPV-LN4F.cfm
However, since the 3rd gen Core processors just came out I worry that BSD/pfsense might not support them or their chipsets too well.
Opinions?

Ooohhh… I like it... Unless you're doing squid, snort, L7, etc. you'd actually be better off with the dual-core. Faster clock speed and lower power.

Oh wow, I am disappointed! I plumped for the X9SCV-Q having no knowledge of this. I might have struggled more with my cooling solution on this board, looking at the layout, but quad NIC is absolutely fantastic. I would go for that without (much) hesitation if buying again, particularly if running virtual machines - because Supermicro do server oriented parts you know the IOMMU functionality will be proper - some board are supposedly VT-d enabled, but a buggy bios prevents the use of the feature. This is less of a "great pfSense box" and more of a "great multiple virtual machines including pfSense" box. But of course, it will be great for just pfSense, unquestionably.

I called and had some email correspondence with a supermicro rep.
This server should be available soon. (i7)
no eta on i3, or i5 server yet. Also said:
"FreeBSD should be supported (Intel support kernel 3.5)" -
There's 2 of us booting with a Q77 pch in another thread. One with 2.0.1 x64. I had 2.0.1 x86 panic on me but 2.1 is working.

Has anyone seen a price for the board? I can hardly believe the only price I've seen: ca. €735.- (business) or €882.- (non-business) (http://www.lambda-tek.com/MBD-X9SPV-LN4F-3QE-B-Supermicro-MBD-X9SPV-LN4F-3QE-B~csDE/B934988)
