CARP w/Cable modem

Is there a way to have the VIP keep the same MAC address regardless of which host is master? If the MAC of an IP address changes, the cable modem shuts down traffic. So fail over would not work behind a cable modem.

That's exactly how CARP works, the MAC of the CARP VIP is determined by the VHID, and it's the same on both units.
