No 802.11N support in 2.1 because the stack is not there yet.

The driver is being taken from FreeBSD 9 because of its stability fixes and new chipsets.

Though it was not so easy to use in FreeBSD 8 as you can see from commit messages, as some might think.

My mistake and my thanks for your work.  :)

It seems still broken in today's (august 3rd) snapshot.
All interfaces are reassigned because the Ath0 card is not detected… It seems to be detected as some sort of USB device.

I have restarted with another snapshot from 10 days ago.

Card used is a Wistron CM9 : Wistron CM9 Atheros 802.11a/b/g Dualband mPCI 5004 chipset

This card is using the Atheros 5004 chipset with the 5213 as main chip.

Definitely an issue here yet… It's out of the kernel and no sign of the module in the builds. It's supposed to be using it as a module now, last I heard.

              802.11n is definitly a must !
Backporting It is a very good idea.

It is worst spending a little time… I am ready to sponsor the debug if needed and if the amount is reasonable.
Come back to me with more precise figure if needed.

                New аtheros driver have
                main module if_ath
                and PCI&PCIe module if_ath_pci

With current snapshot kernel and compiled if_ath_pci.ko module from Freebsd 9.0
pfsense detect atheros card and panic

need include ath_pci in kernel or
not include ath and ath_pci and make in as modules if_ath.ko if_ath_pci.ko

with loaded if_ath.ko if_ath_pci.ko pfsense seeing new atheros cards

                    @podilarius:

the N code is still being developed, but the options to enable it correctly are probably not in the GUI yet. There are some known issues list at the bottom of the page I pasted earlier. And that is probably why they are not there. But you can modify the config yourself from the command line and see if it will work or not. :)

While not useful yet, the options to configure N wireless are already there since 2.0, except for channel width selection (it will default to 40 MHz channel width for N).

ath should be OK again. i386 snap is up now and my alix wireless is back. amd64 will be up shortly.

My bad. It has been a long time since I used pfSense for a WAP (or for wireless in general).

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead, but I am getting ready to place an order for an Alix2d13 with a Wistron CM9 Atheros miniPCI (Atheros 5004). I just wanted to make sure that this card is definitely supported again in the latest snapshots.

Yep, I am posting this from a laptop connected on the WiFi to an ALIX 2D13 with 5004 MP ATHEROS 4G (Wistron CM9) kit in it.
                            The ALIX is running:
                            2.1-BETA1 (i386)
built on Tue Jan 22 05:52:55 EST 2013
I also have one running 2.0.2

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
