Fresh Install, two NICs, WAN working, LAN is not

I have two identical servers, one for testing and one for implementing. I installed a fresh copy of PFSense and it is up and operational minus one problem: the WAN is communicating with the modem, but the LAN is not. I have the LAN connected directly to my router's "WAN" port. The router will not pick up anything from the PFSense box but it will from my modem. Thinking it was a faulty NIC (but PFSense says that it is "UP") I opted to pull the HDDs out and try out the other hardware (identical). Again, the same issue. I am very stumped and am seeking some insight. Is there a crucial step I am missing here? I cannot even get to the WebConfig.

Could you give a bit more information about your setup? Specifically IPs and subnets used. It would also be nice to have a little diagram of the setup. The description sounds a little strange and I am guessing it goes modem -> pfsense -> router of some kind -> switch for your LAN or wireless.

The LAN port is preconfigured with a default IP address of 192.168.1.1/24. It will not pick-up a DHCP lease from your 'router'.
You should connect the LAN port to a switch and hook up a computer/ laptop to this switch. Go into the WebGUI through http://192.168.1.1 or https://192.168.1.1 (depending on whether you enabled HTTPS during the setup process).

It is PPPoE Modem -> PFSense -> Internal Router. The problem is that there is NO lights coming from the second NIC. It is present, it is working, but it is NOT responding to the WAN port of my Router, it will respond to a switch port of my routers 1-8 ports.
Yes, the router does work, I can set it up Modem -> Router -> PFSense but I want PFSense to be a front end transparent gateway.

You may need to use a crossover cable to connect to the routers WAN port. Though I don't recommend you do it this way, you will end up with double or triple NAT.

I have a legacy Compaq ProLiant DL 360 with all functioning parts. The WAN/LAN port both pick up DHCP IPs if connected. When I installed PFSense I expected to have both ports work just fine, but, alas it is not. My LAN is set to the default 192.168.1.1 and my WAN is set to DHCP from the ADSL modem (set to bridge mode).
I get a IP just fine from the modem, but I am NOT getting an IP from PFSense, nor a link light form the server or on the WAN port for the router. Just what, if anything, could be the problem? I have reset the router,… Still a NO-GO.
I even switched out servers (I have two identical servers) and still have the same issue. The router works fine when connected directly to the modem.
I have tried connecting the modem to both server ports 1 or 2, I get lights. But when connected to the router – nothing.
I tired a fresh install.
I tried booting and running off a CD only.
I tried a crossover cable.
What gives?

okay, you want to setup a transparent firewall, this would mean a bridge. If you have both WAN and LAN enabled, it should at least get a link. Sometimes, you have to set speed and duplex manually. I would check on this with the existing setup. Once you have completed that, then you can move on to setting up the WAN/LAN bridge. Since it will be a bridge, you are going to have to manually set an IP on LAN, without dhcp turned on. You will also have to set some system tuneables in the advanced config.
If you are just try to setup a NATed or routed solution, then you just have to work out that pesky link problem. As a test, put in a 4 port switch between the router and pfsense and see if you can get a connection.
