Help with Steam
-
Hey guys,
Sorry if this is a repeat of another post. I have done heaps of looking but can't really find a definitive answer on how to get this working. I'm not a gamer its for my housemate. He can load steam and open the games and everything, his issue is that in Borderlands 2 he is unable to connect to someone else game. I believe Borderlands 2 allows you to pick a player to connect to, and play along with them etc.
My setup:
2.0.1-RELEASE (i386)
built on Mon Dec 12 17:53:52 EST 2011
FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p6Router IP: 192.168.0.1
Router pointing to DMZ: 192.168.0.10
pfsense WAN Interface: 192.168.0.10
pfsense LAN Interface: 192.168.2.254
Housemates PC: 192.168.2.192According to the steam knowledge base the required ports are:
Steam Client
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
UDP 4380Dedicated or Listen Servers
TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)Steamworks P2P Networking and Steam Voice Chat
UDP 3478 (Outbound)
UDP 4379 (Outbound)
UDP 4380 (Outbound)I have created what I believe to be the correct NAT rules but he still can't connect to anyone else. When I do a port scan on those particular ports I can see them all being allowed in the firewall logs etc, but I believe it might be an outbound issue? I have asked him if the issue could be on the other guys end, but he said that his friends are all connected to each other in Borderlands 2, so their config should be OK.
Please see attached screens for my rules.
Now I haven't created any outbound rules for the below, as its my understanding there is a default rule to allow all LAN out to any? and also I have had no experience with outbound stuff yet.
Steamworks P2P Networking and Steam Voice Chat
UDP 3478 (Outbound)
UDP 4379 (Outbound)
UDP 4380 (Outbound)Any help you can offer on this would be great.

Can no one give me any advice on this one?

You could try UPnP instead of static port forwards.

Hey bardelot,
Thanks for your response ….. I dont believe UPnP will fix this issue, as i think the problem is outbound only ..... however I will try and get back to you.
