It would also be nice to have the "module show" command or even better the possibility to type commands (like with the fivn asterisk management "command" menu)
Replying to my self.
To execute all sort of asterisk CLI command, we just have to type it in the browser as a link :
https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php ==> will execute the default command "core show sttings"
and
https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php?cmd=module+show ==> Will execute "module show"
and
https://MyPfsense_Url/asterisk_cmd.php?cmd=core+show+help ==> Will execute "core show help" giving the list off available CLI commands…
(not all commands cause it seems to display a limited numbers of characters...) -

I hope this is the right place to ask this question because I just found this thread. I am setting up an Asterisk box with a Digium TDM400P with two FXOs and two FXSs so I can tie in POTS and house phones with VOIP. My original aim was to have a separate pfSense gateway to control access. Now, having seen this thread, I'm wondering if I wouldn't have the same functionality with only one host. I would need to move the TDM400P to the pfSense box (and install DAHDI drivers) and I would probably use a browser for Asterisk configuration anyway. Is all of this currently feasible? Thanks!

I have some packages compiled on my personal repo but take a look on all this thread to get additional info.
I don't think pfsense is the right place for a voip boad. The idea of this package was to be usefull as a sip gateway/firewall.

Anyone has a port of zaptel driver for FreeBSD-8.1? I'd like to use a X100P FXO PCI card on my pfSense box, but it's not even listed in dmesg…

I fully agree, but I'm not sure that Asterisk is the right software to use on a SIP gateway/proxy.

That depends on the requirements. In many cases a SIP proxy is just not enough, for example when you need to select between multiple providers based on callee destinations (to select cheapest of them). Or when you need Music on Hold while transferring a call from one handset to another.

I was mostly referring to pfsense being a security device (rather than a full blown VoIP pbx, Squid proxy server, NFS/SMB server etc), and so some sort of session-border-controller software (i.e. SIP L7 inspection/filtering) would be the most appropriate to use on pfsense itself …
Otherwise, I'm sure Asterisk or FreeSWITCH can probably both work fine on it.

Since i moved asterisk on my pf-sense box, i have better quality with my calls, i don't know if it's due to move from asterisk 1.6 to 1.8 or move to my pf-sense box. Maybe the few milliseconds gain are sufficient to have better quality? or less nat traffic (udp 5060 no more redirected to another server)?
So i'm very pleased with this solution!
i still have work on the subject : save my logs from time to time because i'm on embedded pf-sense. (Yesterday i was with a uptime of +5 weeks, and a short of electric power make me loose all my calls history…)And now i have gone to read the opentelecoms site : i want to test sip proxy!

http://svn.digium.com/svn/dahdi/freebsd/trunk/drivers/dahdi/Unfortunately the project to port DAHDI to FreeBSD was completed in Oct 2010, after the 8.1 release so it is not in the 8.1 ports tree. You could try the version from 8-stable but it's a complex package so the chances of it working seem quite small. Backup everything first because you'll probably cause all sort of problems! ;)

I have a real problem with asterisk services
I use pfsense 2.0.1 and I installed the asterisk package, statut state asterisk stpopped and I can't start services or find files configuration where located in usr / local / etc, as described in the topic, I also install siproxy and FreeSwitch, I would like to allow a user to call through asterisk server with their sofphones after a captive portal authentication

Configure on service at once. siproxy, freeswitch and asterisk will try to bind on the same port.

In order to edit a configuration file do we start with the xyz.conf-dist files and write to xyz.conf files?
How do you want or envision configuration to be done? -
Current package helps only on installing and monitoring only, a future release will include asterisk-gui.
Edit/rename config files using console, filer package or scp for example.

I've a pfsense 2.01 on a nanobsd platform running asterisk package successfully.
While I've the voicemail for only one extension configured, I wanna integrate it with my google IMAP account.
I was reading details on howto here http://www.asteriskdocs.org/en/3rd_Edition/asterisk-book-html-chunk/voicemail_IMAP_integration.html
I've configured voicemail.conf successfully and module reload app_voicemail.so does not give me any errors but I still dont see any voice mails coming up on my IMAP. I'm wondering if the IMAP toolkit was compiled into this built of asterisk. Being a no-pro, any heads up on how to check and proceed would be appreciable.

I've been using pfSense for about a year now, and have discovered "real" network administration, it has opened up for me many possibilities for me, learning and achieving so much I can't ever be so thankful !Anyway, here is my problem with this module today:
Since GUI upgrade to 2.0.2, service fails to start:Dec 22 12:06:03 root: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/asterisk: WARNING: failed to start asterisk Dec 22 12:06:01 php: /status_services.php: The command '/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asterisk stop' returned exit code '1', the output was 'Stopping asterisk /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/lib/libssl.so.6: unsupported file layout'Any ideas ?
