      I've got a project to try and provide a free wifi hotspot, the users are allowed to access certain websites for free but if they deviate from the list they are prompted with a password screen or captive portal or re-directed to a payment screen.

      thanks

        pfSense .2.0.1 and later has captive portal. Use Allowed IP addresses to allow access to certain web sites for free. Use custom portal page to prompt for password or redirect to payment screen. There are many different ways of dealing with payment -I can't comment on the particulars of your case.

          so the allowed ip is the ip of the destination, i thought this was the clients ip address and it by passed the portal for that client.

            @thepccentre:

            The Allowed IP addresses tab discusses TO IP addresses ("flows"  TO those addresses bypass the portal) and FROM IP addresses ("flows"  FROM those IP addresses bypass the portal).
