[solved] pfSense 2.0.2 random reboots because of software RAID?
-
Hi there!
I just installed 2.0.2-RELEASE (amd64) on a system based on a SUPERMICRO X9SCM-F board with two Intel SSD 320 drives. I chose the RAID 1 option during setup.
While the system itself works well for a few minutes, after a few minutes it reboots automatically. It's to fast to capture the error message on (VGA) console.
I found these log items after reboot:
Dec 23 19:46:13 kernel: ugen0.2: <vendor 0x8087="">at usbus0
Dec 23 19:46:13 kernel: uhub1: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered
Dec 23 19:46:13 kernel: uhub0: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered
Dec 23 19:46:13 kernel: GEOM_MIRROR: Device pfSenseMirror: rebuilding provider ad4.I suppose, the random reboots are somehow linked to the mirroring of the boot disks.
How can I debug this issue resp. where do I find more logs with information on what goes wrong every five minutes?
Thank you very much!!!
L.</vendor>

Check your /etc/fstab - make sure it's referring to the mirror device and not to one of the disks directly.
If the OS is mounting one of the disks instead of the mirror, you can see that kind of behavior.

@jimp:
Thanx for your suggestion, /etc/fstab contains:# Device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass# /dev/mirror/pfSenseMirrors1a / ufs rw 1 1 /dev/mirror/pfSenseMirrors1b none swap sw 0 0
Is that okay?
Where can I find the gmirror widget referred to in:
http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Create_a_Software_RAID1_%28gmirror%29#Monitoring_Array_Status

Where can I set this thread to "resolved" status?
When checking the motherboard manual suddenly I thought of the watchdog function, which I had enabled in an attack of cretinism.
By default it reboots the system after 5 minutes. Since there was no watchdog daemon installed, it of course did as it should.I disabled that function in BIOS and meanwhile got an uptime of 14 minutes! proud
I was misled by that error message
kernel: GEOM_MIRROR: Device pfSenseMirror: rebuilding provider ad4.
which I thought was an indication for a gmirror issue.
Sorry & thanks to all!

There is some watchdog functionality in freebsd you could use if you need it.
You can just rename the title of your first post in this thread to have [solved] at the beginning if you like. You have a limited time from the post date to to that. 7 days? :-\Steve
