"filterdns: host_dns: failed looking up",Using hostname in alias, cosmetic error?
-
Hello,
I am getting the an error in my logs while using an alias containing a hostname rather than an IP for a port forwarding rule. Pfsense seems to be able to use the hostname since the rule works and the right IP is listed in Diagnostics, Tables. I am wondering if this is just a cosmetic error and is safe to ignore?Dec 18 00:20:54 filterdns: host_dns: failed looking up "server.domain": hostname nor servname provided, or not known

Where is that hostname defined? The error just means that it tried to resolve it via DNS and failed. If it eventually worked, then the error is likely temporary for one reason or another.

The alias contains the hostname, then the alias is used to forward a port. Just in case the IP of the hostname changes.
