    I've installed pfsense and for some reason no matter what I try it does not autoboot.  It starts bootup and then stops and asks for "Manual root filesystem specification:".

    Unlike every other post I can find for either pfsense or freebsd on that message, I do not have any error about trying to load the file system.  If I manually type in "ufs:ad0s1a" it then boots up.

    I've checked the /etc/fstab file and everything is correct in there.  (shows ad0s1a for root filesystem and ad0s1b for swap).

    I've searched google for hours with no luck.  I've changed bios settings relating to the harddrive settings sata/ide/etc.

    Below is the output of my dmesg.boot.  If anyone can please shed some light on how I can resolve this I would be very grateful.

      Suggestion:
      Try adding the line

      kern.cam.boot_delay="20000"

      to the pfSense file /boot/loader.conf.local (create the file if it doesn't already exist). This will delay the startup a bit before trying to access file systems. You might need to tweak the number a bit to make it big enough but not "too big".
