New to PFsense hardware questions
-
This is my first time ever using PFsense and I'm about to order hardware for it and I was wondering if this hardware list is a good start and would allow me to play with a few different packages.
amd a4-5300
ASUS F2A55-M LK PLUS FM2 AMD A55
2x Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/ 100/ 1000
Western Digital WD Blue WDBAAX5000ENC-NRSN 500GB
Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600and of course a red rackmount case to match pfsense red.
I was going to go with an SSD until I came across another post here. Seems way to involving to get one working properly without failing in a few months. Also need the 3 network connections might pick up another dsl line since my current one is only 1mbps. So might attempt load balancing.

Looks reasonable at a glance.
There isn't anything crazy involved in getting a SSD to last as long as it would last regardless of what it was running. The problem is SSDs aren't nearly as reliable as hard drives at this point. For most firewalls I'd go with a hard drive over a SSD, for better reliability, lower cost, and no need for the benefits of SSD.

Do you know if the links will work upto a gigabit or is this to much for this processor? Or would it be something like 300 on each link?

That should definitely be enough for 1 Gbps wire speed throughput.
