Hi, I am very new to pfsense ( have some limited *nix experience).Apologies in advance if this is a really dumb question.

I have purchased a Shuttle XH61V Barebones unit (since it has 2 nic), and added a 2 core celeron processor and 4Gb of RAM.

I am having an issue installing Pfsense. It boots fine, however, when I need to select network interfaces (auto-detect) it will not detect any.

Is this a driver problem, or have i done something wrong.

Booting from an external USB CD Drive with Pfsense 2.0.2 (x64) .iso

      Thanks in advance.

Maybe pfSense is not detecting the NICs at all (in which case you might get better results using a pfSense 2.1 snapshot build because that includes much more up to date device drivers than earlier versions of pfSense) OR you aren't connecting the NICs, one at a time, as prompted, to a switch or other computer so pfSense can use detection of ethernet carrier as the indicator of what NIC is to be used for what purpose.

It quite possibly could be a driver issue.  That board has 2x Realtek 8111E NICs onboard, which seems to be only supported in some revisions of the chip.  Like Wallabybob said, maybe try a 2.1 snapshot.

Here's a thread from a while ago talking about that chipset: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,41742.0.html

Yep, it definitely works in 2.1:

If you don't want to use beta there are some newer drivers comiled for 2.0.X here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,58150.0.html

I would expect them to work with your box as reported here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,56950.msg311750.html#msg311750

Thankyou all. I will try using the 2.2 version, and see if that works.

I'm planning to put this device into production so i may need to revert back to a stable release, but my first goal is just to get it running.

Will keep you posted as to progress.
