      its general so.

      i have a motherboard where i can boot from USB to pfsense/nas4free/*bsd/linux but
      windows wont work at all. i get BCD\ when i try and i have looked on google and that and tried
      cant get it to work anyone got that problem before?

      my kids is almost crying when i cant get the computer to work :)
      i did try to install windows on another computer anad then put the hdd in the wireddo one
      it felt like it was a old old 386 computer.

        i havent had a cd burner for like 2 years now so cant try boot from that atm anyway.

          matt more information will be needed to help you on this one. Are you trying to boot windows from a flash drive or CD/DVD. What version of Windows are you trying to boot. You can't really install Windows on one machine and then take the hard drive out of that machine and install it into another one unless the hardware is the same. I'm surprised you didn't get the blue screen of death.

          1. What kind of computer do you have?
          2. What hardware do you have in it?

          Could be anything, I would take your install media and try it in another computer to see if it works on another computer. If it doesn't then you know that your install media may be at fault. If Pfsense is booting on the same computer and your are not having any issues then I would think Windows should boot. You could have a bad memory module as well, there is a program called mem86 or memtester or something like that. This program could check your memory to make sure you have a stable system to run Pfsense or Windows.

            i'm trying to boot from usb.

            i've tried win7 ultimate there is 32/64bits version on it.
            i've tried a old winxp 32bits and vista 32bits to still the same.

            i only have 2 intl cpu's to try with but its on 2 motherboards
            its not any new stuff

            mb1 is a intel 945 something. a older P4 3Ghz HT
            mb2 is a asusĀ  both are 775 sockets the asus has a E model cpu celron

            pfsense am64, nas4free am64,
            ubuntu i386/am64
            debian "almost same as ubuntu" but not the same .iso/.img
            freebsd 8.1,8,3,9.0,9,1 tested and works.

            i've tried to move the usb to another port.
            1 or 2 days before i started playing around with does 2 computers i used the same usb stick to install my brothers machine same win7 that dont boot on the other to.

              Are you getting a blue screen as soon as it boots from the flash drive, or after installing windows?
              What method did you use to prerp the thumb drive?
