      Hello

I bought a box that has only a com-console. I installed pfsense on it's mSATA-Disk and it runs fine. However to install it, I had to chose the CF-Image and use USB-stick because the ISO are switching to VGA-Console after booting what causes that I see nothing on my com terminal. The CF-image however is mounted read-only and does not allow me to install packages.
How can I bypass this caveat? Is it possible to install a CF-image like a HD-version? Can't the ro-mode be optional?

      Thanks for ideas and tips

To install FreeBSD packages (with pkg_add) or do anything else to the filesyetem in the Nano images you need to first remount the image RW. See: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Remount_embedded_filesystem_as_read-write

There is a good reason that the file system is mounted RO by default though. It saves your flash media from excessive writes which may kill it. This shouldn't happen with the default install anyway but if you install packages it might.

You should be able to use the "serial memstick" image to do a full install for a serial console machine if you want, just make sure to choose the embedded kernel when installing.

Also if you really want it to stay RW at all times, on 2.1-BETA there is an option to keep the nanobsd disk RW under Diag > NanoBSD.
