Im sure this is out there somewhere but I can not find it.

I want to run asterisk on my pfsense box.

      1. Do I need additional hardware for this to work? Such as a digium card or something?
      2. Can this integrate with google voice?
      3. Can this integrate with ObiHai products?
      4. Can I use a old anlog telephone or do I need special voip phones?

Thank you kindly in advance for your answers.

The basic idea of this package is to be a sip/iax gateway/proxy/firewall to protect internal voip server.

You can reach all these configs, but you will need to compile a lot of drivers/modules on freebsd and copy it to pfsense.

Btw if the idea was to provide a pfsense package to be "sip/iax gateway/proxy/firewall to protect internal voip server" I understand that other VoIP software is better suited for the task (this however doesn't diminish the value of marcelloc's great work on this a several other packages).

Asterisk on pfsense should be used if one plans to implement a relative barebones (compared to specialty asterisk-distros like Elastix) VoIP-only (i.e. no cards) IP-PBX.

Might it be beneficial to update the package description to make this distinction?  Currently it reads as if you install the package and you have a full fledged IP-PBX and you don't need anything else.

If you know how to configure asterisk config files, then you don't need anything else.

                  Sure . . . that makes sense, however . . . .

. . . . would make me think that a clearer definition of it's reason for being implemented would assist some in making a better informed decision as to install it or not. (of course, not removing the possibility of using it for more.)

                  just my 2¢
