I didn't know where to post this but this is just a thank you note to the pfSense team for their awsome product.

At my home I have an Internet connection (100/25 Mbps) and an IPTV service provided over fiber. I was becoming much more apprehensive with the router the ISP placed at my home after I found out it had several backdoors that allowed the company to enter my router and reconfigure it. I started thinking that they could even snoop into my own network.

The first thing I did was to put my LAN behind an ALIX box running pfSense so that my ISP wouldn't get into my network. This configuration was doing double NAT (pfSense and ISP router) before reaching the Internet. I quickly found out that I could make pfSense get a public IP address on the WAN interface if I could make it do a PPPoE connection. This was quite easy.

Then I read a few tutorials regarding my ISP's configuration when using DD-WRT and ported the information back to pfSense.

At the moment my WAN interface has two VLANs (10 and 12). One is for Internet access and the other for IPTV. IPTV is distributed my IGMP so I had to use IGMP proxy. If someone is reading this in Portugal and is using Meo I will gladly share my full configuration. Just reply to this thread.

My little ALIX is doing great. Watching 720p TV uses about 6.5 Mbps of bandwidth and I can still use the Internet perfectly.

I would really like to know what will happen when they try to update their router's firmware and it's not there… ROTFLOL :-D :-D

      Thank you pfSense!

Or someone in Germany having Entertain from the German Telekom (VDSL25/VDSL50). Difference is that here VLAN7 is used for internet traffic and VLAN8 for IPTV.

Check you WAN speeds behind the ALIX box. I doubt you will see anything beyond 50Mbps. ALIX cannot handle higher throughput.

            Actually I usually see around 85 Mbps…

I might buy new hardware in the future but I actually don't mind this cap.

Yup, I get around 86mbps throughput with an ALIX on a 100mbps cable.

                                Hi, Miguel

I'm from Portugal too, could you share your configuration.

You are still using MEO router for the IPTV service correct?

Your are creating a bridge by disabling the PPOE from MEO router and authenticating in PFSense box correct ?

I'm also looking to connect directly to the ONT … I can manage that with Draytek router ... but of course I lose the IPTV service if I have one ...

If you need the VLAN settings for MEO fibra PM
