      Hi,

I have a problem with a board with two realtek cards on it, I checked on the FreeBSD site and they appear to be supported, yet pfSense does not find them.  Not to worry though because they provide FreeBSD drivers on the driver disk, but how do I install them?  I cant seam to find much anywhere, and if I just boot I cant seam to get past the configure your nic screen.

      Any ideas?

      Scott

Might be a silly question - but are they recognized in BIOS - with interrupts assigned?

Of course it depends upon what system you are using - but older hardware may need manual configuration.

          What Realtek NICs are they?
If they are 8111e Gigabit or similar you will need to use pfSense 2.1beta in order to have new enough drivers.

Ahh thats exactly the problem then, they are 8111/8168 cards.  When is the beta likely to be released?  Can I get it now to have a play with, or is it possible to build the drivers I have into 2.0?

            Thanks

            Scott

A helpful forum user compiled some more recent drivers for 2.0.X, here.
They may or may not help depending on your hardware revision.
2.1 is nearly at RC status so it's probably easier just to try that.

the last snapshot I see is still labeled Beta1… id be careful saying RC is near as nobody knows how many betas
the pfsense team will release before we see RC and then release....

i have been around since before version 1 of pfsense and the team does a good job of releasing it when its ready and
not before. sometimes a few bugs slows down the release of pfsense and IM ok with that..

We have found Beta versions to be Stable for US... but YMMV....

It was not based on speculation (not mine anyway)  ;)

2.1-RC1 coming soon and a new edition of the book. stay tuned!

I completely agree that the pfSense team is very good at resisting pressure to release before it's ready, and that's a very good thing.
