An update to the Snort Dashboard Widget has been released.  The new version is 0.3.4.  This is primarily a bug fix release.

      Bug Fixes

      1.  The widget now correctly handles a situation where Snort is uninstalled but the Snort Dashboard Widget remains installed.  In this scenario, the widget now displays a message that Snort is not installed.  Formerly this scenario resulted in various types of Dashboard crashes and/or errors.

      2.  The widget now has a package manager uninstall function that cleanly removes the package's files and also removes the reference to the widget from the Dashboard's saved configuration.  This prevents various GUI errors when the package is removed and the Dashboard does not update correctly.

      New Features

      1.  The Snort Dashboard Widget can now accommodate Snort alert log entries with (or without) the YEAR in the timestamp.  The last update to Snort added the YEAR to the date in the timestamp field for both Snort alert logs and Barnyard2 database feeds.

NOTE:  With this new version, the widget will not immediately appear on the Dashboard upon package installation.  You will have to manually add the Snort Widget back to the Dashboard by clicking the "add widget" icon (+) on the Dashboard page and selecting Snort Alerts from the list.  Position the widget on the page, and then click Save Settings.

        0.3.4 = not good

I did a package reinstall and the dash widget totally disappeared.

I then did a uninstall/reinstall (a couple of times) and I cannot get it to come back .. never even shows up on the dashboard.

Stopped Snort … did a widget uninstall/reinstall ... restart Snort.  Still nothing on the dash.

Poking around for some logs now.  What can I check?

        Snort 2.9.4.1 pkg v. 2.5.6

        2.1-BETA1 (amd64)

Did you click the plus icon ( + ) on the Dashboard page and choose Snort Alerts again?  I just tested on a 2.1-BETA virtual machine and it worked.  Removed, then reinstalled.  You do have to go back to the Dashboard "add widget" icon and choose Snort Alerts.

Part of the "bug" I fixed was the old version left parts of itself still embedded in the Dashboard.  This caused problems when either Snort was removed or the Snort Widget was removed.  Now, removing it "really" removes it from the Dashboard.  You have to add it back just like the very first time you ever installed it.

Post back or PM me if the above steps don't bring back the widget.

Agh!  That change in behavior bit me.  All is well now.

BTW … I really appreciate all the work you have been doing on the Snort packages.  The Snort integration is a key reason I've moved to pfSense.

Glad it's fixed for you. I will add a note the Change Log post reminding folks they will have to add it back using the plus ( + ) icon.

Also a great update. Worked without problems for me (pfSense 2.0.3 i386)  ;D
Only had to add the widget again.
