    hi guys,

Im really trying to figure out how i can install this 3G modem into my box and serve as 2nd WAN. I can see that pfsense can see the device when run with usbconfig at the interface, however when trying to add ppp, the modem is not listed.

I have heard of Usb_modeswitch, but im stuck on how i can use it. I already downloaded the package via shell pkg_add, and it is located on /usr/local/sbin

when i try to execute the file, the shell says "" /usr/local/sbin/usb_modeswitch: Exec format error. Binary file not executable. "" <<< i dont know about this.

If there's someone who can guide and walk through me of how to make things done, i would much appreciate it.

        What it your 3g modem?
What is the output of usbconfig?
Where did you download usb_modeswitch? Is it a 32/64bit problem?

        Steve

Both of those modems are on the list of known working devices:
            http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Known_Working_3G-4G_Modems
Though you may have new variants of both that are unrecognized. Perhaps the 'modem only' mode you put them in presents a new USB id?
Since there seems to be an issue with recent 2.1 snapshots have you tried 2.0.3?

            Steve

              Hi Steve,

yes, im much aware both the modems are supported.
even in default mode, right before modifying the modems, it doesn't detect it Still.

I havent tried 2.0.3, im running well with 2.1-RC0 (i386) built on Tue Jun 11 17:49:25 EDT 2013, except that it does not see any ppp 3g modem. there is a new snapshot dated Jun 19. Do you think there is a fix on this one?

I have no idea I haven't been following that. However if that is the cause of your problems you should still see the modems correctly appearing in the logs. Specifically you should see some u3g entries.
