Is it possible/recommended to use XMLRPC sync without CARP/pfsync?

I'm in a situation where my ISP will not open up the interconnect IP range to allow me to use CARP on the WAN interfaces.  I'm hoping to find a way to synchronize changes on the primary to the secondary unit so all we need to do if hardware fails is swap the WAN/LAN cables over and we'll be up and running.

Sure, XMLRPC works with or without CARP. Some people use it just to sync aliases and such.
