Unable to configure IPv6
-
Hi
Im using pfSense 2.1 RC1, snapshot from 8. august 2013.
Now im trying to use IPv6 at my home network (internal, not an 6to4 tunnel). What i have done:
-Interfaces
-LAN
-IPv6 Configuration Type: Static IPv6
and entered an IPv& address. If i go now to
-Services
-DHCPv6 Server/RA i got only this message:
_The DHCPv6 Server can only be enabled on interfaces configured with static IP addresses.Only interfaces configured with a static IP will be shown._
What i'm doing wrong?

Does it actually show you the LAN tab options under that message?
That message usually pops up because it wants to default to WAN, and if WAN has no IPv6 it will forward you to the LAN config and print that warning to let you know that the original interface that was requested doesn't have IPv6…
So that message can show up and yet be perfectly normal to see, you can still configure it on LAN.

nope, see screenshot

What do your LAN IPv6 settings look like exactly?

Change your IPv6 prefix length from 128 => 64
-
No luck with this, same as screenshot above…
-
Using fe80::/10 (link-local addresses) for static IPv6 assignment and DHCPv6 pools is a completely broken idea in the first place.

Hi doktornotor
Thank you for the input. I changed it from fe80 to 2001
it works now.I'm completly new to IPv6 and im just testing.

Hi,
you should use IPv6 ULA addresses for your purpose.
You can generate them here:
