Enabling Powerd crashes my laptop

Hi all,
I am on 2.0.3-amd64
With powerd disabled everything is fine except that even when there seems to be no cpu usage as reported by status->dashboard the fan is running on highspeed.
If I enable powerd then the fan takes a break, but after sometime the system locks up.
I saw one other thread with something similar but no solution in it.

If its crashing your laptop when you turn on powerd, I'd definitely turn it off.

Yes I have it turned of currently with the side effect of the fan mostly going at hyperspeed.

Well a couple of things,
1/
It makes me think the cpu is constantly pegged at 100% which it isnt because I can see in the dashboard that it's hardly doing anything.2/
Having it running at hyperspeed can possibly mean to me that the fan will need to be changed regularly. :(
This is the only real physical side effect I can think of.3/
Yes it is kinda too loud, but I suppose I can bare with it. :) -
totally not related - but… For a laptop that I don't use in mobile situations.
I HATE laptop fans. They are nearly all junk and usually the weak link. When they fail, I either remove them nicely or tear all the blades off them and affix an external fan thats designed to move enough air to actually cool the laptop under load and not have to spin terribly fast. Then I put a screen over the inlet. I have two like that now.
Incase yours ever fails.

You are not alone. My DELL Inspiron 5100 doesn't like powerd enabled either. It's been turned off for quite awhile so I don't recall exactly the symptoms. But definitely way more stable with powerd turned off.
CPU and fan cycles between 50 and 55 C. Fan come on at 55 and goes off at 50, with about a 50% duty cycle lasting about 1 minute.
