The FreeBSD kernel in pfSense already includes drivers for all the supported NICs (both wired and wireless).

ubuntu is not FreeBSD. The existence of a Linux driver for your card is not proof of the existence of a FreeBSD driver for it.

            ipCop is not FreBSD.

I suggest you search the pfSense forums for "WN851ND". Perhaps another reader has reported some experience with that card.

Looks like the TP-LINK TL-WN851ND is based on the Atheros AR9227 chipset.
The AR9227 is supported by the current FreeBSD ath(4) driver.
However (although I'm having trouble finding any evidence) it probably isn't supported by pfSense 2.0 out of the box. You will probably have to wait for the first experimental builds of 2.1 which will be built on FreeBSD 9.X.

Impossible to say but hopefully quite soon. There have been several encouraging signs:
                  @sullrich:

The pfSense developers made two large milestones today: FreeBSD 9.X and PHP 5.3 support both now work.

Ask one of the developers.  ;)
However the first builds will be for experimental and development use so don't expect everything to work straight away.

That is the 2.1 development pfSense code built on FreeBSD 8.1.

The new drivers will only be available once builds on FreeBSD 9 start.

                        Hi guys

any news on this situation ?

i also have a TP-LINK WIRELESS CARD TL-WN851ND which is not recognized in pfSense

i have installed 3 cards  2 TP-LINK Gigabit cards and 1 Wireless TP-LINK model mencioned before on topic, the 2 GIGABIT cards are recognized ok as Realtek cards, which work ok , but the Wireless TP-LINK WN851ND model is not recognized , so i cannot configure the extra wireless LAN

i am using latest updated version 2.0.1 just updated

Since this thread started work on 2.1 has switched to building on FreeBSD 8.3 as switching to 9.X proved tougher than expected.

However there has recently been a backport of the new Atheros drivers so the more recent 2.1 snapshots may well recognise your card. Try it and see. Be aware that the snapshots are for development purposes.

Even if the card is recognised it won't work at 'N' speeds at this time though.

FYI- I have an Atheros 9280 in my ALIX right now on 2.1 and it works like a champ so far.
