So I've got Dynamic DNS setup to tell DYNDNS if my public address changes. I've also created an alias on my domain name with namecheap.com. So when I got to subdomain.domain.com:8080 I can view my website on my server from an external machine.

However if im on my local LAN and i access subdomain.domain.com:8080 I get a timeout and the page cannot be displayed.

I've setup a forward under the DNS Forwarder page which looks like - subdomain.domain.com - 192.168.1.200

      Am I missing something?

Is this using the pfSense DNS forwarder as the DNS?

What does the browser report when you attempt this access? Host offline? No route to host? Timeout? Page not found? something else?

What IP address does ping report when you attempt a ping to subdomain.domain.com?

I presume you mean an override for Host=subdomain, Domain=domain.com, IP=192.168.1.200 and that 192.168.1.200 is the "local" IP address of subdomain.domain.com. Please clarify.

My DNS on pfsense is set using googles DNS 8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4

browser reports - the connection timed out

when i ping my subdomain.domain.com its my public ip of my pfsense box

That suggests the system doing the ping is NOT using the pfSense DNS forwarder OR you haven't configured the DNS override entry in pfSense DNS forwarder correctly.

What DNS is used by the system doing the ping?

The DNS override entries can take two or three parameters and there are two types (host override and domain override). You provided only two parameters and didn't specify the type, hence my request for clarification of what you had specified in the DNS forwarder entry.
