Watchguard Firebox Won't Boot
-
I recently got hold of a Watchguard Firebox X700 cheaply with the plan of running pfSense on it.
I tested that it would boot the watchguard software when I first got it, then replaced the CF card with a 2GB card on which I had copied the 2G nanoBSD image.
I got this to boot correctly and went through the initial setup.
I then rebooted the device and now as soon as power is switched on the LCD screen simply displays solid black squares along the top line and there is no response on the serial port.
The power light is orange and the arm/disarm light flashes green.
I have replaced the original CF card in and it behaves the same. I haven't altered the hardware in anyway other than the CF card.Has anybody else experienced a similar issue or can anybody recommend the next step in diagnosing/solving the problem?
If you need any more information/details then let me know. Many thanks

I had a similar thing happen to an X700 box. I found that it would boot eventually after repeated attempts. It becam more and more difficult to boot until it dies completely. :( I think it's likely a bad capacitor on the board, they are all quite old now, or possibly a bad PSU. Probably not what you want to hear. The capacitors are relatively easy to change if you find a bulging one.
If you do get it to boot don't turn it off!

Ok, I assumed it might be damaged hardware but hoped I was just doing something stupid! I can't see any obviously bulging caps; I might test around with a multimeter if I find myself with some free time this week.
Frustrating that the person selling it might have known that it was on the way out too. Ah well.
Thanks for your help :) -
My worked fine when I first received it, even though it had been badly packed and damaged in transit, then one day it just didn't boot. Symptoms just like yours, arm/disarm LED doing something it shouldn't at power on. The previous owner may have known nothing about it.
