'date' does not like the -d flag?  What am I missing?

      [2.1-RELEASE][root@pfsense.localdomain]/root(21): date
      Tue Oct  8 08:23:10 MST 2013
      [2.1-RELEASE][root@pfsense.localdomain]/root(22): date -d '6 days ago'
      usage: date [-jnu] [-d dst] [-r seconds] [-t west] [-v[+|-]val[ymwdHMS]] …
                  [-f fmt date | [[[[[cc]yy]mm]dd]HH]MM[.ss]] [+format]

        from date(1)

-d dst  Set the kernel's value for daylight saving time.  If dst is non-
zero, future calls to gettimeofday(2) will return a non-zero for
                    tz_dsttime.
