I am using a nanobsd 2gb image. I upgraded to 2.1 and apinger won't start.  Now I can't openvpn to my client.  How do I restore the previous slice? Is it done via the terminal or can i do it via the gui if I drive to the client site and can get to the gui? any help is appreciated. I just have never restored the slices before. Thanks.

You can do it in Diagnostics: NanoBSD: but you should be aware that the config file will probably give problems. Do you have a backup of the 2.0.3 config file?

I found that after I posted it.  It seemed to restore ok.  I do have a backup. Would i know immediately if the config file gave me issues?  Everything seems to be working ok.  I wish I could upgrade to 2.1, but the box crashes and kills the internet connection. I think it has to do with apinger and openvpn possibly??  Do you know of an easy way to disable apinger?

You can disable gateway monitoring in System: Routing: Gateways: edit gateway.
It's better to add values there, under advanced, to properly tune apinger so it functions correctly though.

maybe i'm missing something.  how should the gateway be set for dhcp? what options are you referring to? sorry, I just didn't know I had to configure a gateway if wan was set to dhcp.

pfSense makes a gateway for you when WAN is set to DHCP. Then you can go to System->Routing and edit the gateway how you want. The Advanced section lets you change various parameters that apinger uses to decide if a gateway is up or down.
But if apinger does not start, then the reason for that needs to be fixed first - the System Log should have some error from apinger if it really has gone missing.
