ASUS P8H61-MX Motherboard throws Uncorrectable PCI Express Error
-
Just a little heads up, had to get a new PC to replace my old pfSense machine, just got a cheap and cheerful intel dualcore with 6Gb of ram using the Asus P8H61-MX mother board but the NIC built onto the MB doesnt work with FreeBSD that comes with pfsense 2.0.1-RELEASE or 2.0.0-Release, it throws the error "Uncorrectable PCI Express Error".
I dont know havent tried any of the suggestions here:http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?action=printpage;topic=20095.0 or http://people.freebsd.org/~yongari/msk/msk.pcierr.patch as time is a bit of a premium at the moment.
Anyway sent the PC back and obtained an old dell machine becuase they do support linux to get me going in the mean time.
However I am curious if there is anything I can do to resolve this "Uncorrectable PCI Express Error" , are the links above likely to resolve the problem as I'm thinking of rolling out pfsense to a few customers whose budgets dont stretch to the paid solutions like sonic wall (cant say if its any better than pfsense with snort mind) but would like something more controllable than their existing ADSL router firewall to do things like block certain countries for example?
TIA

Hmm, that patch is dated 2008, isn't it included in the msk driver yet? (Most of FreeBSD 8.1 is from 2010).
I had that error using an msk interface, 88E8053 I think, though in my case the interface continued to function. I did remove the error by updating the NIC VPD code. See:
http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,20095.msg207289.html#msg207289
The error is also handled silently by the newer driver in FreeBSD 8.3 and hence pfSense 2.1.Steve
Edit: The Asus P8H61-MX does not appear to have a Marvel NIC, it is Realtek. :-\

That might explain why I didnt get anywhere with the Marvell Yukon VPD app, I had checked out the link above as well but didnt get anywhere.
