Hello everybody, I wrote a post about 3 months ago about a problem I had with the WAN PPPoE configuration of pFsense. 3 months ago I gave up on the problem but now here I come again: i need your help guys, please! That's my configuration:

      1. D Link DSL 2750 MODEM ONLY (BRIDGE MODE WITHOUT DHCP AND NAT)
      2. Sony VAIO laptop with virtual box
      3. Virtual box with two NIC cards: one bridged with my wireless nic (connected to my modem) and one local only (intnet).
      4. The IPs are: 192.168.1.1 (modem)
                                192.168.0.1 (pfSense LAN gateway)
192.168.0.2 (Windows XP Pro virtual pc on my intnet).

On windows XP I can access the web configurator of pfSense and I can setup everything, even the traffic shaper thing. The only problem is the WAN interface. As I set up it with PPPoE, I enter my username and password and… NOTHING happens: the interface tries to connect but after a sec it's down again and it keeps going on for ever. I don't know how to solve this problem, even if I check dial on demand, blank service name etc... nothing change.

Please help me guys, thanks in advance :)!!!

I think for PPPoE on WAN, you do not need to setup IP address on the WAN interface, the PPPoE server should assign you an IP address.

I haven't tried PPPoE WAN on virtual box but I tried it on a esxi host and it works.

Not sure if the modem bridging works with wifi, maybe a good idea to try it with a ethernet cable first?

Thanks 4 your answer. My WAN is setup as PPPoE (with DHCP it doesn't show an IP, in fact). I insert username and password but when I go in system logs –> PPP it says: PPP link down event or something like that like my credentials are incorrect but they're correct I double checked. Who knows how to solve that? BTW I have the same problem with m0n0wall (even if it's not the forum adapted...)  :-\

PPP link down probably means the DSL modem has lost the sync, or could be not able to talk to the modem. Try it on a wired connection instead of wireless see if that make a difference?

OH MY GOD man you saved my life!!!! With the ethernet cable attached from the router directly into my laptop it works!!!! I'm so happy, thanks a lot dude, seriously!

BTW, I need to understand why with the wifi it wasn't working…

Good to hear you sort it out. I am guessing this probably means modem in bridge mode only bridging the Ethernet not the wifi. I am not an expert on this I could be wrong.
