Pfsense 2.2 snapshots?

How long will it be until the first pfsense 2.2 snapshots, RCs etc. are available? is there any planned schedule?

It will probably be a while, 2.2 is supposed to move to FreeBSD 10.x.

True, but FreeBSD 10 should be at RC1 soon, and GA in a month, so it would be nice if pfSense testers could bang on it for a while before then.

What I meant was I believe there's a lot of things that need to change under the hood in order to move to 10.0 and I didn't think they were done with those changes. I don't think it's the FreeBSD release holding things up.

It has less to do with the progress on FreeBSD 10.x, and more to do with our developers getting our patches working/building on FreeBSD 10.x in a meaningful way.
Last I heard it built, but minus some important things like captive portal.
Even if we get snapshots building regularly they may not actually be usable for quite some time. 2.2 is still open to development so things will change/break quite often. I wouldn't plan on using them for anything more than testing/development for a long while yet.

The sooner we can get them to play with the sooner we can start suggesting new features and changes. Might even get a few folks to look at working on developing their new feature. Way too much to expect but some folks might even spend some time looking at the nooks and crannies of the system for things that could be cleaned up.
Also don't overlook the folks with new, unsupported hardware that would jump to a new version as soon as it had enough functions working to meet their needs so they could play with their new toys.

I was thinking more going the other way, giving back: using 2.2 testing to help flush out bugs in FreeBSD 10.0 earlier in their cycle. Maybe pfSense 2.2 can be built on 10.0 or 10.1, rather than 10.3 or 10.4.
I'm sure pfSense stresses more/different aspects of FreeBSD RCs than the more common testing scenarios.

Yes but there is no rush for that – And we have plenty of new things already on the list for 2.2. The main focus is on FreeBSD 10.x and getting it working well there, but even once snapshots start it won't be stable for a while. It may happen to run but during an unstable development time, snapshots could break and there isn't any effort to ensure they will all be good as that might hamper large-scale ongoing development. People get spoiled by the quality of the beta/rc snapshots (even though they have their glitches) and easily forget what the beginning stages of new version development are like.
In short: Be patient, and don't expect to be running it outside of a lab any time soon.

Those really have to be overlooked. If they want to live in the danger zone, so be it, but that shouldn't be considered for a while. We can't focus on keeping it "good enough" for some while breaking other things this early in the development cycle. So if someone wants to try that, we can't stop it, but we also can't encourage it.
