I have an intel NIC with 2 SFP ports that works fine. I don't have transceivers for it so I'm switching to this guy.

StarTech.com PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Open SFP Network Adapter NIC - PCIe Gbe SFP Fiber Optic Network Card - Server Adapter (PEX1000SFP) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009X6D1DU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When I boot it crashes at "push E for remote connection" freezes doesn't reset etc.

I haven't pre installed any drivers yet. Not sure if it's an issue with the NIC or if I can boot up without the card install drivers and restart or there's any other way. If there is a NIC with an SFP or two that you think is much better I'm open.

Thanks in advance love PFsense and this community,
      Jered

If there isn't anyone that can walk me through this happy to pay someone in the bay area (Mission dist) to give me a hand in person.

        Thanks,
        Jered

So your box is hanging at the NIC rom? Right at the start of boot?
What hardware are you putting this card in?

Well if it's hanging at the nic boot rom it's nothing to do with drivers or pfSense. It's an incompatibility between the card and the board. Are you running the most recent BIOS?

Card support seemed to think it might be a bad card and have sent another one.

                Arrives Friday will update.

Sorry to drudge up an old topic, but how did the replacement card work out? I am looking at using that card as well.
