I just spent 2 hours trying to get my brothers xbox working through our pfsense router, and it was an absolute nightmare.  I don't know what changed in the last few versions of pfsense, but whatever it was needs to be fixed.  Upnp wouldn't work.  With upnp on and the xbox using dhcp the xbox network test would show no problems and no nat, but he still couldn't join a party.  I then tried doing manual port forwards with upnp off and the xbox would then start showing nat problems. I had all the listed ports open as well (52, 80, 88, 3074), and still it was showing nat problems on the network test.  After hunting through several articles I stumbled upon one that said to go into the firewall NAT outbound settings and set it to manual and then in the "WAN 192.168.1.0/24 * * * Wan address * NO" rule you have to edit it and set it to static.

With upnp now on with allow rules for port 88 and 3074 and a static dhcp mapping for his xbox it now works with that rule set to "static".

Please make whatever change is necessary so this doesn't happen to anyone else.  I've done 100's of port forwards in my life with no issues, and even did standard port forwards for xboxs with pfsense in the past and didn't have issues.  This was infuriating.

There is actually a sticky topic in the Gaming subforum regarding this that is a couple of years old, so not sure the issue is really that new.

What you call infuriating is actually a feature.

The last paragraph on the above web page is what you want to read.  You should have made a static port NAT rule for just the IP of your brother's Xbox, not your entire LAN subnet.
