ALIX: Upgrade from embedded to full installation?
-
Hello everyone
Currently I am running pfSense 1.2.3 full on an ALIX board having a microdrive pluged in.
Is it possible to put the embedded 2.0.1 image on the microdrive (using dd on a linux machine), boot it on the alix board and then upgrade to the full version using the webgui so I can use packages?
Otherwise I would have run through all of the following steps:
- Provide microdrive as raw_device to a virtualbox
- mount full installation media iso on vm
- install
- change mountpoints
- …
-
The only way to get a full install on alix is to mount that disk in the vm or another box and do it.
You can't do an in-place upgrade of nanobsd to a full install.
If the ALIX would boot from USB it would work to install from a serial memstick, but alas, it doesn't.

I don't think that is what he wants to do:

Looks like he wants to upgrade from 1.2.3 full to 2.0.1 full.
Shouldn't that just be a firmware upgrade, possibly carefully choosing the 2.0.1 image with serial console support (if required - not all Alix boards have video hardware)?

Thanks for the reply guys. I was aiming for a fresh full installed. It turned out to be quit easy. I did not even had to filddle around with /etc/fstab…
