      Hi,
I have received some abuse notifications about ntp.

      http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Main/SecurityNotice#DRDoS_Amplification_Attack_using

      I'm using pfSense 2.1-RELEASE (amd64).
I have to upgrade ntp to 4.2.7p26 or later or edit the config file. As long as I couldn't find any information about upgrading services on pfSense (and I'm not familiar with FreeBSD), I came to editing the config file. The file /etc/ntp.conf was almost commented. I found /var/etc/ntpd.conf that seem to be the right one. So I edited restrict lines from

restrict default kod nomodify notrap nopeer
restrict -6 default kod nomodify notrap nopeer

      to

restrict default kod nomodify notrap nopeer noquery
restrict -6 default kod nomodify notrap nopeer noquery

(just added noquery to end of each line) and saved the file. I restarted the ntp service through web interface of pfSense. I noticed that the file /var/etc/ntpd.conf has been reverted to what it was.

So my first question is how to upgrade my ntp on pfSense. The second one is how to edit the ntp configuration of pfSense. Another question is how is the "-6" at second restrict line on ntpd.conf.

      Thanks :)

          Thank you.

Any links about upgrading a service manually?

          Thanks again.
