Is this an OverKill
-
I dont think so…
But then again, I'm running a DL360 G4 with Dual 3.6GHZ Xenon's and 8GB of DDR2 -
What are you usIng it for? Throughput? Packages?

I
m new to PF Sense….I
m still learning on what this program does. I just got tired of buying store bought routers and having limited control of the router and plus buying 2 routers a year due to cheap CAPS they put in. They either leak or just burst. So I decided to jump in and build my own. For your Question Steve....aliitle bit of both Throughput and Packages. Yea Adrian that is a beast you got running -
I meant what throughput do you expect and what packages are you running?
It almost certainly is massive overkill though unless you have a 1Gbps WAN hookup.Steve

steven,
greenja9 here… was looking for the posts that you and I had about the vlan wrt54g/pfsense issue connecting to pfsense while maintaining my current wlan connection... and was wondering what happened to the posts. I did a search and can't find any reference of them on the site.... were they deleted? these posts were not under my profile either. just curious!

Odd, I still see them here:

I
m new to PF Sense so I decided to build a router…...Here
s the specs:IBM System x3200 M2 4367
1 x Intel Dual-Core Xeon E3110 / 3 GHz ( Dual-Core )
Processor Main Features: Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology
·Cache Memory: 6 MB L2 cache
Cache Per Processor: 6 MB
RAM: 8 GB (installed), DDR II SDRAM, ECC, 667 MHz, PC2-5300
Storage Controller: Serial ATA ( Serial ATA-300 )
4 500gig HD
3 1000gigabit Ethernet cardsInstalled PF Sense lastnite and its running like a BOSS. I was wondering its its an overkill. The Server was givin to me so no money was involved on building this.
Still have some minor issues but I`ll iron them outVery nice. I put PFSense on a Dell Poweredge 2550 which running on Pent 3 probably 1ghz. 1gb ram. I'm uploading video to youtube which is the video below also
my other computer is using the internet. Is you'rs over kill. I think so it depend how far deep you go with PFSENSE. I just need my poweredge 2550 act as a simple
firewall. So Comcast cable connects directly to my Poweredge 2550 and from there straight to my switch. Everything from router to servers, computers, media player
connects to my switch. My router acts as access point so almost everything is disable from router. Here video. Oh by the way my server rack is a 4 post and it's
over 80 inch tall got it for 200 bucks its a 700-800 rack. I got it deliver from the guy from over 100 miles away he was selling it for 100 each rack. He gave me
power strip, 2 monitor holder which one is supporting three server LOL notice pc underneath supporting my server because that monitor holder is not enough damn
server weigh alot. But damn why not get cheap server use it as firewall and convert ur server into Nas? :D By the way good job!! Here my pfsense screen shot and
youtube video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEcbFl6y5cc&feature=youtu.be

m getting a newer switch also going to buy 3 Blade servers for my media center. Ill post a video of my setup as well when I
m done![Pf Sense1.jpg](/public/imported_attachments/1/Pf Sense1.jpg)

That old firebox is going to be a massive step down in performance if that screenshot is from your current box. Are you sure it's going to be up to the job?

Really, extremely, dramatically lower! :o
http://www.norgie.net/documentation/firebox/Hence my advice here: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/PfSense_on_Watchguard_Firebox#Firebox_II_and_III
I'm not sure quite where the 1000 falls in the II or III model range but it's down there.I'd be surprised if you can push 50Mbps through that box without any packages.
