Last week I ran into an installer bug on systems with 32 gigs of RAM. This week I had the dreaded hang at 36% with "/usr/local/bin/cpdup -vvv -I -o /usr /mnt/usr" stuck on the screen.

When will the dev team get the next version of the installer out?

I am having the same issue stuck on 36% with "/usr/local/bin/cpdup -vvv -I -o /usr /mnt/usr" . Were you able to get around it?

This seems to be quite a common problem particularly with dell servers. I've not experienced it myself but the advice to get passed it seems to be:
During the install disable power saving and virtualization features and set the cpu to a single core in the BIOS. Once installed those options can be re-enabled.

I installed it on a different machine first and then moved that disk over to the target machine. Now when I say I installed it on a different machine, I mean the FIFTH machine I tried. The first four didn't work. This installer SUCKS.

Maybe its your machines that suck? ;)

Are you trying on different hardware?  Your saying that your getting the same error on 5 different machines, cpu, motherboard, chipset, etc.. You do understand the definition of insanity don't you..

Eventually there will be a new installer, but not any time very soon. (There is the web installer at /installer/ while booted from cd/memstick too)

Usually getting stuck at 36% is an IRQ conflict between the install media source and something else on the box, typically a NIC.

Sometimes booting from a different source works (e.g. USB memstick rather than SATA optical), sometimes tweaking BIOS options helps, other times NICs have to be disabled, occasionally breaking into the installer before booting fully works ("I" during CD boot), other times letting it boot up all the way to the end helps.

It's more about how intense the install process is driving the media (source and destination) during that step than anything else.

This bug has been reported many times by many different users. Your comment is outrageous and completely unnecessary.

Dude it was a JOKE!!! You might want to remove the stick from where it doesn't belong while you work out your issue..

But my question is valid - you say 5 different machines..  Are they actual different hardware, or just 5 boxes same make and model?

I have seen it many a time.. Oh I tried it lots of different machines - same issue.  Sorry but while taking the new Model XYZ out of the box from the maker might validate that the hardware is not broken in machine 1, etc.  So while copy1 of model XYZ is a different machine as copy2 of model XYZ..  If your problem is with some form of conflict with IRQ or something, different box of the same hardware is not going to validate anything ;)

I had same issue when re-installing from USB stick. Though I did found a solution which worked for me.

                        1. Boot up from USB
                        2. Don't press any keys (ex. "i" for installer) etc… Just let it continue until you reach pfsense menu.
                        3. Press"99" for installing on disk
                        4. Don't choose "quick install" - Run manual.
                        5. Follow the steps now, it shoud continue till end and not stuck at 36% now.

I tried different combinations, and this worked for me.
