Could squid or something similar be configured so that when multiple machines behind the proxy are accessing the same stream (such as Shoutcast), that the stream passes through the proxy to consolidate the bandwidth?  Currently if three computers are tuned to the same channel, you consume 3x the bandwidth of that channel.  Could the stream essentially be briefly cached to consolidate the bandwidth consumed?

I'm not sure if squid3 with dynamic contents enabled can handle this.

An option to test may be a varnish daemon configured as proxy in front of squid cache.
