Is there a way to run owncloud on a pfsense box, so that I don't need a dedicated server?
-
Short answer: no.
It might be possible since ports for FreeBSD exist however it would require a lot of hackery. It would potentially reduce the security of your firewall and make updates much more difficult.
The way to do this would be to run pfSense and an opencloud host OS as VMs if you want to run only one box.

thanks. Looks like I have to buy a raspberry pi or something for owncloud

There are plenty of people doing this in vms with FreeNAS or similar. Not something you want to try?

FreeBSD isn't a problem, it runs fine on FreeBSD. It's mostly a matter of security. That, and IIRC there are some PHP modules they want that we don't include.
You're better off running that in a VM or on a separate box for security reasons.

Has anyone managed to get the OwnCloud Client to run in pfSense? I'm thinking I could use it to backup our configuration files automatically.
