INTEX NIC IS NOT WORKING
-
I am using DELL inspiron model to use pfsence!!
It has a on board NIC card( Intel PRO/1000). And i installed another NIC card from INTEX, but is not showing.
"ifconfig" only showing one card i.e Intel PRO/1000. Though NIC from INTEX is working quite comfortably with LINUX(Ubuntu).Detail of NIC:
HANGZHOO SILAN microelectronics 8C92 RTL PCI fast Ethernet adapter, INTEX RLX 8139D LAN Card. Please help me…...

What does Ubuntu recognise it as?
It seems that Intex make some cards that appear to be Realtek RTL8139 based, which would be supported by pfSense, but are not:

Perhaps yours is one of these fake cards?Steve

You get what you pay for there. Realtek is bad enough on its own but a fake Realtek? That's a new low. If they're going to copy/grey market something they should at least aim for something high class.

That's why they called it Intex. I misread that at first and assumed the OP meant Intel. I'm guessing a lot of people do the same thing.

Yeah, you'd have thought they would make fake Intel cards with a name like Intex. Perhaps people buying Intel NICs have higher expectations. People buying rtl8139s are looking for the cheapest possible thing they can find so if it works at all they're happy with that.
InteI 1ntel Inte1 Inte! all seem like better choices. Probably already taken. ;)Steve

I don't understand why they would even want to make a fake 8139. Real 8139D NICs are dirt cheap (I can get a Dlink 8139D based NIC off the shelves for <us$4 each).<br="">Even an old FXP NIC off the local store's bargain bin can be had for US$10 or less these days and are much better than the 8139.</us$4>

Fake realtek? wow
I have been eyeballing those chinese i350s of uncertain providence and considering trying one, but that has got to take the cake.

If you're eyeballing the likes of the i340-T2/ T4 from places like Aliexpress, try for the 'ROS' units. I've one unit and am using it in my pfSense rig now. It's detected properly as an actual Intel NIC in both Windows and pfSense so far.
This is what I've gotten: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Intel-82580-ros-high-quality-server-pci-e-dual-port-gigabit-network-card-82576/1227262779.html
You can probably get a better deal on eBay or Amazon or Newegg but S&H is a killer for me so I've to pass on those. -

There are definitely no better deals, a server-pull quad is easily $200+ on fleabay right now because everyone and his brother are building ESXi boxes to virtualize all the simple stuff. (the idea that a <$1000 server can run the same assortment of miscellaneous jobs they used to have a dozen crappy P4-era space heaters do, and its waaaaaaay easier to manage is really starting to catch on)
If the chinese ones are proper, I might even unload the dells I have and get more ports total.

The problem with Chinese knockoffs is that even if those are actual Intel controllers they're not likely to be first stock chips or contain other substandard parts.

Surprisingly, the units that I've gotten are using decent electronic components. I do agree that they might not be using top yield controllers though I've not encountered any issues so far.
It must be noted that what I've got isn't a knock-off/ clone so this wouldn't apply to those units that are actually direct knock-offs. It's actually designed by their own engineers (not sure if this is a good thing but their PCB layout does seem rather decent).
