[SOLVED] Packages won't stop installing, NTP keeps stopping

I upgraded from 2.0.1 to 2.1 this morning. Since then I keep seeing this message:
Packages are currently being reinstalled in the background.
Do not make changes in the GUI until this is complete.

Its been reinstalling packages for hours now. They did not take that long to install previously. How can I see what exactly its installing and what the status is?

Also, the ntp service dies as soon as I start it. I cannot get ntp to run. I did use ntpdate at the command line to set the system clock. Not much in the log just this:
ntpd[21600]: ntpd 4.2.6p5@1.2349-o Wed Jul 24 14:35:11 UTC 2013 (1)

How can I get the package install done and get ntp working?

Found a bit more info in the system log related to ntp:
kernel: pid 35505 (ntpd), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)

You can clear the lock by going to Diagnostics > Backup/Restore and pressing the button to clear the package lock.

Plagiarized from a post by JimP some time ago.
There should be something in your system log that indicates an error in the package reinstall process. In any case, after hours of waiting, clear the package lock, then go to System->Packages and manually install each package you need.

Ok, I figured out the NTP thing. This post was helpful:

I had done two things this morning, renumber the LAN IP range and upgrade from 2.0.1 to 2.1. Guessing changing the LAN IP range has something to do with this. I had to go to Services -> NTP then select the LAN interface and hit Save. NTP working now.
