Traffic Graph Direction

I am a bit confused with the direction indicated at each interface. What is the direction for IN and OUT in respect to the interface?
For example, for WAN interface, the IN refers to the traffic coming IN from public Internet while the OUT refers to the traffic passing through the WAN interface going out to the Internet?

In and out is from the perspective of the firewall. Think of the firewall as a central point, with interfaces coming off of it. Anything coming in to the firewall, from any of the networks around it, is "in", anything leaving the firewall going to one of the connected networks is "out".
