          @mohdsh85:

Is that the gateway for device on the LAN network (the LAN interface IP) or a gateway you set on the pfSense LAN interface (which would be bad)?

          Steve

Could be simply that the ISP gateway doesn't respond to pings. Go to System: Routing: Gateways: Edit the default WAN gateway, advanced options, change the monitor IP to something public like 8.8.8.8.

When you said you tested it with a laptop was that using a PPPoE connection from the laptop?

                  Thanks Steve ..

yes it's worked on my laptop using the PPPoE connection ,

and i replaced the pfsense firewall with Tplink router to generate IP's and it's work …

u mean i need to put the monitor IP as DNS server?

it's something strange , if the ISP down how it's working throw the Router or direct to laptop??

pfSense monitors the status of the WAN connection by pinging an IP at the remote end. By default it uses the WAN gateway IP but if that machine doesn't respond to pings pfSense will see the connection as down/pending. In that case you need to set an alternative monitor IP, it can be any remote machine that responds to pings. The closer to you the better for gathering line stats which is why the gateway is normally used. Both the laptop and the router do not do this so there is no problem.

                      Steve ,

i left yesterday and everything is great , but when i came this morning i found the gateway online but major sites not working

as google.com, hotmail.com, speedtest.net and another major website is working as gmail.com…

fighting with my ISP provider and no result they said every thing is fine ....

shutting down my pfsense for several minutes

then starting my pfsense again and every thins is working and now every thing is great ,,,,,

could my ISP doing updates or shutting down services at night and something hang in pfsense ???

                      am just  :(

by the way i change my monitors  IP to one of my static IP's

                      thanks .....

One of your own IPs? Where is this IP, at some data center? It must be at the other end of the ISP WAN connection.

Are you running Snort? Or any other packages?

Were any sites still accessible when you came in?

                        Steve
