Trouble with install (2.1.1-Pre) - no interfaces on quad port intel PT (IBM)
-
Hey all,
Just trying to install pfsense on my new firewall box, and I'm unable to install as it doesn't seem to be detecting my quad port intel nic
I've got an ibm flavored intel PT, which should in theory be supported. Could someone please point me in the right direction to solving the problem?
I have a haswell pentium G3420 on an asrock H81 Board, with 4 gig of ram
I have tried:
1. setting the ssd to ide mode (no change)
2. disabling/enabling the onboard realtek (no change)
3. reinstalling 3-4 times
4. Setting link speed to Gen1I'm a bit of a novice with pfsense, so detailed advice would be appreciated.
Thankyou in advance

Ok, first determine if this is a harwdare issue or a pfSense issue.
Are the 4 NIC interfaces listed in the BIOS POST screen? If you boot into pfSense (using the onboard NIC) and run 'pciconf -l' do you see the NICs listed as 'none1-4'?
It's possible IBM used an IBM PCI vendor ID that isn't recognised by the em driver.

No nics listed in pciconf -l - I'm guessing you're right that it's a vendor id issue
Reckon it could be flashed to something else? -
Right but are they listed as unknown devices (devices with no driver attached) which appear as 'none'? If they are then it's a matter of finding or modifying a driver but if they're not then you have to find out why. Some mutli-port cards use a PCI bridge chip rather than separate connections and sometime it isn't initialised by the bios correctely. In those situation the OS can only see the bridge in pciconf.

Hey, just wanted to say I haven't had a chance to check this out yet, currently dealing with a newborn (hence the delay). I will get back to it soon.
